Classic ERA Moments: well, it has been a while since i've hurt myself in an embarrassing way...

if you think i look bad, you should see the other guy sidewalk...

I've always been accident prone. i am a total flail. i have literally been injured in every single sport i have participated in: cross country! swimming! softball! basketball! track! hiking! rollerblading :/ (let's pretend i didn't mention that one). in high school my cross country team once gave me the "If-there-is-a-hole-in-the-ground-my-foot-will-find-it Award" because i used to twist my ankle or fall on my face so often. sadly, these injuries always used to occur at very inopportune times, like right in the middle of swimming or cross country season when we'd have meets a few times a week. since college, the injuries have been fewer and farther between (the closest thing was an embarrassing injury where i sprained my ankle falling out of the laundry room into the hallway in my old apartment building... but that is a story for another day). perhaps the missing element during the past several years was the lack of competitions: without something for an injury to get in the way of, my body apparently felt no need to injure itself. so naturally i would only manage to hurt myself NOW, when i've got a half marathon coming up in 3.5 weeks.

yes, that's right. i somehow managed to trip and fall while out running with KH yesterday. you know you've had an epic fall when people stop their cars and a woman you don't know runs across the street to make sure you're ok (and also offers to drive you home... because apparently you don't look like you can drag your bloodied heap of a self all the way?). ugh it was gross. i mean, cutting my knees and elbows up when i was already damp and covered in sweat from running in 80 degree weather really amplified the horror show effect (blood + sweat = lots of bloody nastiness). fortunately in baltimore no one even looks twice when you're walking down the street bleeding all over the place.

so here i am: twisted ankle, concrete burn on one knee and one elbow, giant bloody hunks of skin missing from the other elbow and other knee. and for some reason, 23 hours later, my knee and elbow are still bleeding? sweet.

remember when you were a kid and you'd get hurt and you'd go inside, have your mom slap a bandaid on and then you'd be back outside playing? well apparently at age 29.8333 you don't recover quite so easily. sigh.

oh - by the way, if anyone's on calvert street today, can you keep an eye out? i think i left part of my knee on the sidewalk there...
