| brandied pumpkin spice pie with gingersnap pecan crust: you really don't want to know how long this took to make |
Happy thanksgiving!
today i am spending my first thanksgiving in baltimore. my parents decided to drive down so the three of us could spend the holiday together. "let's just keep thanksgiving simple this year!" my mom said when they told me they would be coming down. i was relieved. i had a feeling that, with my smaller and somewhat under-equipped kitchen (compared to theirs), things could get cramped and stressful pretty quickly.
well, i have now spent 8+ hours in the kitchen making brussels sprout & caramelized onion hash, gingered sweet potatoes, a brandied pumpkin pie with gingersnap pecan crust, cranberry orange walnut bread and northern spy apple pie with toasted walnut crumble topping (the turkey with homemade cornbread stuffing is still in the oven)... did i mention that there are only 3 of us? suddenly, i am seriously regretting her discovery of the food network all those years ago. this is 'simple'? really?
fuck you, rachel ray and alton brown - this is all your fault.
