things that are hilarious, vol 11: eyewitness interviews on the local news

Can someone please explain to me why local TV reporters seem to always interview the worst people ever? this problem is particularly bad in baltimore, where the proportion of crazies to normal people is so high, EVERY story seems to include a painful interview with a total nutter. whether it's a toothless crazy person being interviewed for a story about how baltimore was voted #2 in a ranking of cities with the ugliest people, or just some guy being interviewed about tourists being mugged and saying they were stupid if they didn't expect to get mugged in baltimore, these interviews are just laughably awful and totally useless.

take last night's CBS newscast for example, where an eyewitness to yesterday's 5-alarm fire in baltimore's red light district (a block of strip clubs on baltimore street downtown) was interviewed and shared this stellar account of what he saw with viewers:
"there was smoke. then the girls started runnin out naked. grabbin they clothes. runnin down the street, tryin to get they clothes on. they were runnin down the street naked!!!" -interview on WJZ, Baltimore's CBS news station
i kind of think they may interview these people on purpose, either because they're bored or lazy or maybe just because they find these interviews as hilarious as i do...

only in baltimore: firefighters try to put out
flames on the block of burning strip clubs
