I've never considered myself to be someone who is particularly concerned about privacy. this is because a) i'm not totally convinced that there is such a thing in this internet age, b) there isn't really anything i'd be truly embarrassed for people to discover (i mean, i tell people myself that i once worked at an organic dog treat bakery. who cares if someone can find that out online?) and c) in my area (health policy) it would be a lot easier to do research if there were fewer rules about what constitutes proprietary data and fewer hoops to jump through to use even de-identified data (woah - nerd alert! sorry...).
but, with that being said, i have to be honest: i occasionally worry about my google search history. thinking about those enormous databases google keeps, and how they can track everyone's searches, sort of terrifies me. i am sure if anyone looked at my complete search history, they would think i was totally insane and i would probably get flagged by the CIA as a possible sociopath.
for example, my last 4 searches were:
rube goldberg
ONCHIT
don draper says what?
cats and ear wax
dude. even i think i'm weird based on that list.
i briefly considered explaining why i googled each of these things, but figured that explanations might actually make me seem even weirder.
sigh.
