because he was gone fairly often, i would get super excited when my dad came home from business trips. i was kind of a hyper child, and i guess this just gave me yet another excuse to go a little crazy. perhaps the most memorable of these homecomings was the time that my dad walked in the door and i was SO EXCITED that i ran towards him with open arms and shouted "daddy, i love you!" unfortunately, at the time i was not wearing shoes, and the combination of slippery socks and wood flooring meant that what actually happened was that i skidded right past him and face-planted into this large wooden plant stand in the corner (god i wish i could have seen my parents' expressions as all of this happened. if there was a look that combined an eye roll with a look of astonishment and a bit of terror, that probably would have been it).
i miraculously survived my face-plant into the plant stand without doing too much damage to myself. unfortunately, the same couldn't be said about the plant stand: still to this day, it has two vertical scrapes down the side from where my two little front teeth broke my fall.
ahh childhood.
(see this entry for part one of cherished childhood memories)

I'm still wondering when your Paris "bathroom experience" will show up as part of your "cherished childhood memories"...
